As per Ontario’s direction regarding the Provincewide Shutdown, EarlyON Child and Family Centres must close to the public beginning Saturday, December 26, 2020. This means that neither indoor nor outdoor programming can be offered during the shutdown. This closure is in effect for all of Ontario from Saturday, December 26, 2020, to Saturday, January 9, 2021. The restrictions will remain in effect from Saturday, January 9, 2021, to Saturday, January 23, 2021, for all 27 public health unit regions in Southern Ontario (the list of public health units can be accessed here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/covid-19-provincewide-shutdown).
We are pleased to share that our EarlyON centres have reopened to in-person programming, both indoor and outdoor. All in person programming requires advanced registration. Please visit the EarlyON Event Registration Pages to learn more about the events offered and the registration process.
We are following operational guidance from the Ministry of Education and Ottawa Public Health to provide a safe early learning environment for families and staff.
We will continue to offer virtual services. Please visit EarlyON Family Resources to browse for recorded circles, family activities ideas, sensory receipes and to connect to the Program Facilitators. Program Facilitators are available for information and referrals as well as parent/caregiver support.
Please direct any questions you may have to Deborah.Stowe@ocdsb.ca
General Information
The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board operates EarlyON Child and Family Centres (formerly known as Parenting and Family Literacy Centres) in eight elementary schools. The EarlyON Child and Family Centres offer programs for families and their children from birth to age 6 that build positive adult/child relationships, encourage children’s exploration through play and inquiry and can facilitate community connections for families. While at the Centre, families can:
- Discuss with the program facilitator and share information about parenting, child development, nutrition, play-based learning and other topics that support the role of the parent/caregiver.
- Become familiar and build positive connections with the school
- Obtain information on community resources
- Access a multilingual book lending library
