The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is committed to the community use of their schools, however up until now, offering our users necessary and affordable insurance coverage was difficult. Now through our membership with OSBIE, Ontario School Boards Insurance Exchange, we can offer an affordable solution to those users needing insurance for their community activity or event in a simple and comprehensive format.

Who Needs Insurance?

Any group who does not have access to an insurance program, such as a Provincial Sport Association, National Sport Association, Service Club, etc.

Events can include: Low risk sports, medium risk sports, theatre performances/recitals, school reunions, meetings and more.

Who is covered under General Liability Insurance?

The permit holder, all affiliated leagues, (clubs and/or teams), their members, officers/directors, coaches, managers, officials, auxiliary workers, employees, volunteers and spectators.

What is General Liability Insurance?

It is insurance designed to protect a person against any legal responsibility arising from a negligent act, which results in bodily injury or property damage.

This policy will provide protection for both legal defense cost and any compensatory damages (subject to the limits of the policy). All activities disclosed on a permit are covered for the time and date referenced on the permit and coverage is only in effect while using the facilities of the school.

What other types of Insurance are covered under the program?

   Participant Liability
   Personal Injury Liability
   Tenants Legal Liability
   Incidental Medical Malpractice

Participant Liability covers liability in the event a participant is injured and claims negligence.

Personal Liability covers slander of a person or organization, orally or in written publication – excluding any advertising material.

Tenants Legal Liability covers damage to property or premises rented to the user or occupied by the user.

Incidental Medical Malpractice provides coverage for users who either fail to render, or render medical services, or furnish/dispense drugs and supplies – with the exception of individuals whose occupation it is to provide these services.
