Our School

SGC
We acknowledge that our learning is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Our School

Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School is a vibrant vocational school which focuses on both the trades and academics. We provide students with strong hands-on practical experience to prepare them for:

  • College
  • Apprenticeships
  • Employment

To that end, we provide applied/college and locally developed/workplace pathways.

The Sir Guy Carleton school community is dedicated to our students and provides a positive learning environment that emphasizes vocational training. We provide practical, relevant, and active approaches to education where students are given daily opportunities to learn in a hands-on manner. All of our classes at Sir Guy are capped at a maximum of 17 students.

Our technical, academic, and school wide initiatives, such as Work Experience, ensure a holistic approach to student learning. Sir Guy offers vocational learning in auto service, auto body, cosmetology, childcare, welding, construction, woodworking, communication technology, green industries, hospitality, and health care. All our trade classrooms are real-life job environments. Our academic program is equally effective with instruction designed to meet the learning needs of all our students. For senior students, co-operative education and two week work experience placements are important components of “The School that Works.”

Our Students

Students at the Sir Guy Carleton come from all over the west of Ottawa. Sir Guy Carleton students graduate with either:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Ontario Secondary School Certificate
  • Certificate of Accomplishment

Most of our vocational students graduate in four years but some stay between 5 and 6 years, as it can take longer for some students to develop the skills necessary for their post-secondary goals.

Our Staff

The proud staff of Sir Guy Carleton consists of teachers, administrators, educational assistants, custodians, office assistants, food service and technicians. The academic teachers are not only strong subject teachers, but also experts in working with students who have unique learning needs. Teachers in our technology department are trained professionals within their field. All the members of the Sir Guy Carleton team are committed to preparing students for college, apprenticeships or the world of work.

Our Community

Sir Guy Carleton's close proximity to Algonquin College enables us to foster a strong partnership with the college and unique Dual Credit opportunities for our students. A highlight of our program is the Specialist High Skills Major in hospitality ,transportation and green industries.
