Welcome to Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School, home of the Knights! We are a school that offers a career and technological education focus to students who are interested in the trades. Our staff is dedicated to helping students to gain a strong foundation in their academic subjects while exploring different opportunities in skilled trades. We offer academic courses at the college, applied, locally-developed and non-credit levels. Sir Guy has the staff to help prepare you for the workforce, college or an apprenticeship!
We are proud to offer courses in automotive repair, auto body repair, child care, communication technology, construction/custom woodworking , Hospitality and Tourism(the culinary arts), hairstyling, green industries/horticulture and welding. Our Culinary Arts, Automotive and Urban Farming Programs are Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs. In these three programs, students can achieve a special ‘Red Seal’ diploma that is recognized in the respective industry
Cooperative Education is an integral part of Sir Guy Carleton S.S. Co-op provides students with the opportunity to practice the skills that they are learning in their various classes and to take them out into the world of work. Senior students may participate in a job placement for a half full day or all semester. For many of our students, this co-op placement turns into paid employment! All senior students also have the opportunity to complete a two week full-time work placement each semester. These programs allow all students to sample a variety of different jobs.
Sir Guy Carleton also offers a variety of other learning opportunities including Physical Education, Outdoor Education, Music, and Visual Arts. Our extra-curricular sports and clubs offer all students opportunities to get involved in school life. Students have many opportunities to shine and be leaders at Sir Guy Carleton: Knight Crew is a group of senior students who help our grade nine students make a smooth transition to high school, Leadership camp allows students to experience the power of working together as a group. These leadership activities, along with our many clubs and teams, add to the vibrancy of Sir Guy.
Our true strength lies in our staff and students! With over 75 staff supporting our almost 400 students in an environment where instruction is at a level that they can achieve success and where they know that staff cares about them. The Knighthood serves as a shining example of what education should be and what each of us can become!
